If you want a recipe that’s quick, easy, and satisfying, look no further than this recipe for ground turkey lettuce wraps. It’s as simple as can be, it’s brimming with hearty ingredients that will fill you up, and it taste good, too! That makes it perfect for a speedy weekday dinner, or something fast that you can make for a meal prepped lunch. Plus, it’s low in carbs thanks to the ingenious use of lettuce leaves for a wrap!
This particular recipe is a simpler off-shoot of these turkey lettuce wraps. The original recipe is great, but we decided to tweak it slightly to make it quicker and easier for when you’re really in a rush, but still want a healthy meal. We did this by slicing the ingredient list down to just four items: ground turkey, mushrooms, lettuce leaves, and sesame oil.
These four ingredients combine to make a dish that’s high in protein, packed with veggies, and full of flavor. It has everything you need for a complete meal, without anything extra. Sure, sometimes the extra stuff is nice. But when you don’t have time to to to the grocery store to buy a full list of ingredients, and then chop up and cook all those ingredients, this modified recipe can save the day.
You probably have most of these ingredients on your weekly grocery list to begin with. The one unique item might be sesame oil, but it’s worth it to have this stocked in your kitchen cabinet. It’s a low-calorie, low-sodium oil that can be used to easily add some flavor to a number of dishes.
If you do happen to have a few extra ingredients on hand, it’s easy enough to quickly jazz things up a bit more to really accentuate the Asian-inspired flavors in this ground turkey lettuce wraps recipe. You can toss in some garlic and ginger and drizzle some soy sauce on top. Just be sure to use the reduced sodium soy sauce so you keep this dish as healthy as it can be.
4 Ingredient Turkey Lettuce Wraps
We gave classic Asian lettuce wraps a makeover by using lean ground turkey and mushrooms to make a nutritious filling.
- 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. sesame oil
- 1 lb. ground turkey raw, 93% lean
- 4 cups mushrooms chopped
- Sea salt (or Himalayan salt) and ground black pepper to taste; optional
- 2 cups Bibb (or butter) lettuce leaves approx. 16 leaves
Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add turkey; cook, stirring frequently, for 4 to 6 minutes, or until browned and no longer pink.
Add mushrooms; cook, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 6 minutes, or until mushrooms are soft and liquid has evaporated.
Season with salt and pepper (if desired); mix well.
Evenly divide turkey mixture among lettuce leaves.
- To add additional flavor, cook turkey with 4 cloves finely chopped garlic and 2 tsp. finely chopped fresh ginger.
- Serve each portion drizzled with 1½ tsp. reduced sodium soy sauce.
