Recharge with This Filling Greek Mango Snack

There are plenty of creative ways to use Greek yogurt — from salad dressings and marinades to dips and Popsicles. But there’s no shame in letting this thick and creamy ingredient shine in its unadulterated natural state. This Greek mango snack recipe does just that, as it takes snack time to the tropics .

There are only three ingredients in this simple recipe — plain Greek yogurt, fresh mango, and unsweetened shredded coconut. By topping the plain yogurt with the naturally sweet mango, there’s no need for added sugar, honey, or syrups. And even though the recipe calls for unsweetened shredded coconut, you’ll likely find that it adds a touch of sweetness, too, in addition to its nutty flavor.

We opted for 2 percent Greek yogurt in this dish, which makes the snack rich, filling, and satisfying. The extra creaminess of 2 percent (versus nonfat yogurt) makes this nutritious recipe feel more indulgent than it really is. And with a balance of 27 grams of carbohydrates, 19 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fat, this well-rounded mango, coconut and Greek yogurt snack will easily tide you over until your next meal. Why mango? Not only is it a sweet, juicy compliment to the Greek yogurt, but the mango also provides its fair share of nutritional benefits. Research shows mango is a source of polyphenols, a compound found in plants known to support the heart and brain. Fresh, raw mango also provides vitamins C and folate.

Not sure how to pick a ripe mango? Take some tips from the National Mango Board (yup, that’s a thing). It advises against picking a mango solely based on color, since it’s not the best indicator of ripeness. Instead, gently squeeze the mango — a ripe one will have a little give to it (although you don’t want a totally mushy fruit, either). Ripe mangoes may also smell fruity around their stems.
