This Avocado and Spinach Smoothie Is Packed With Protein

Right now, we’re really feeling green smoothies. We love how unexpectedly yummy they are. Who would think dark leafy greens would ever taste so good in something like a vegan chocolate shake?

The great thing about green smoothies is they don’t actually taste “green” in the way that knocking back a wheatgrass shot does. They’re a refreshing way to sip your superfoods — and this avocado and spinach smoothie created by Chef and Food Stylist Megan Mitchell is one of our favorites.

It’s smooth and creamy with a touch of sweetness and surprising spice. It’s perfect for starting your day or after a morning meditation or yoga session.

Avocado and Spinach Smoothie Ingredients

If we were handing out awards, green leafy vegetables and avocados would be on our MVP line-up. They were actually numbers 2 and 11, respectively, on our 11 low-carb veggies list.

Spinach has heaps of vitamins and phytonutrients, and baby leaves are softer and milder in flavor than mature or cooked spinach.

OK, we know that avocados are actually fruit (maybe you’ve read our guide to everything you need to know about avocados). Some studies have suggested that avocados could support weight loss.

Along with healthy fats and vitamins K and C, folate, potassium, and magnesium, avocado adds a nice velvety texture and nutty flavor. There’s also Greek yogurt and unsweetened almond milk in this avocado and spinach smoothie for creaminess — and a boost of protein.

To round out all the green goodness, including Ladder Superfood Greens Blend, we wanted a big protein kick. In all, you’re getting 36 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber. Ladder Whey Protein Vanilla has high-quality whey protein isolates, delivering about 90% pure absorbable and digestible protein.

Finally, a touch of cardamom is the secret ingredient. This strong and fragrant spice has subtle hints of lemon and mint.
